The Furniture Store has now re-opened with reduced days and times. Please look at our  Facebook page which will be updated as the Coronavirus situation changes.

Help us reuse good quality used and new furniture.

In a typical year we recycle over 1,000 items in West Somerset. Our Furniture Re-use project is designed to help people on lower incomes buy good quality, used furniture. In addition, our sales recycle furniture that otherwise may well go to waste landfill sites.  After the project’s overheads have been covered, any surplus is used to help fund Engage’s other charitable activities.

Donating furniture

All our furniture is donated. We are happy to receive items at our showroom at Alcombe Village Hall. We also offer a collection service within the West Somerset area— please call to discuss .

Examples of furniture we accept

  • Sofas, suites, recliners, sofa beds, coffee tables, sideboards and other lounge furniture
  • Beds, mattresses and headboards
  • Wardrobes, chest of drawers, bedside cabinets and other bedroom furniture
  • Dining room furniture: tables, chairs etc.
  • Bookcases, display cabinets, office and other kitchen furniture and much more

Other items  accepted include mirrors, pictures , bric-a-brac, cutlery, crockery, small electrical items and ornaments.  However we are currently unable to  accept white goods, clothes, bedding and shoes.

If you have good quality furniture or other household items that are surplus to your needs, please contact us to donate them for reuse.

If you are a UK tax-payer please ask about Gift-Aid. This allows us to reclaim the basic rate of income tax from the Inland Revenue on a donation made by tax-paying donors. For example, if you give us a sofa which raises £60, we can claim £15 from HMRC (the Inland Revenue), making your donation go even further, at no cost to you.

Buying furniture

Good quality  furniture at affordable prices.  This project is mainly aimed at people on low incomes, but we understand that people in need are not always in receipt of benefits.  Engage therefore operates a two tier pricing structure.  Prices are kept as low as possible and people on means tested benefits, along with those under 25 years of age, are offered a  discounted price, once proof has been seen.

Qualifying benefits include:-

  • income support
  • Job seekers allowance
  • Housing/Council tax benefit
  • Pension credit
  • Child and working families tax credit
  • Employment support allowance
  • Social fund benefits
  • Universal credit
  • Under 25s

We can deliver all over West Somerset, with charges dependent upon location. We charge per delivery not per item—this small charge helps us to maintain our vehicle.  Why not look at our Facebook page for items we currently have for sale
